Guest Room and Office Makeover

A few months back the ladies over at Decor Steals shared a Miss Mustard Seed pick.  It would seem that this Miss Mustard Seed (aka Marion) has the magic touch.  If you have never been over to her house tour on her blog I would highly recommend that you click on the the link above.  You won't regret it. She has the most wonderful style and her photography skills are beyond amazing.

So anyway, I order quite often from this site, as it really seems to cater to excellent prices on unique decor items. I personally can tell you that everything I have bought so far has been of excellent quality.

These are just a few of the items I have purchased.

Ok wow..I have bought a lot!  Like I said they are a great company!

A couple of months ago I ordered this "grain sack" fabric (pictured above) to finish off the bedding in my guest room. It came in a 3 yard cut and the fabric itself is heavy and thick. I wanted to recover some old bolsters that had come from a model home. They were custom sewn and very well made but the fabric was atrocious. First off, the colors were not my taste. Secondly, the room was decorated in a music note theme, again not my taste.

The top bolster is the original fabric and design. Below is the first finished product in the new fabric.

I was really happy that the new fabric was nice and thick and the old fabric would not show through. I apologize in advance for not taking pictures of the process of sewing the fabric together but next time I sew I will make sure I do. I won't bore you with a step by step in words either. (aren't I thoughtful?) It was a basic straight stitch with a draw string closure.

And here it is all complete!

I'm loving the way these turned out! And, for my first time sewing, I think I did an excellent job! Not to toot my own horn but TOOT TOOT!

Plus I ended up with enough fabric to recover the desk chair and an additional pillow!

Please comment below and let me know what you think...

Feeling Love Again...

First, let me say that I am not one to share my personal life normally, however, over these last four months I have had my world implode a few times over.

Makeover Monday#4 (on Tuesday)..use what you got!

As much as this might surprise some of you, I'm not made of money and I don't own a tree where it grows on (I have a black thumb..whomp whomp).

I often look around my house and reconfigure displays and trade things out to make it fresh again without spending money. Sometimes this works out other times, not so much.

Now that Fall is officially here I am excited to begin transitioning to Fall decorations!

And to quote the Pointer Sisters...." I'm so excited! I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!"

And the award goes to...The Leibster Awards and Me

Wow!!  It is a total honor to be chosen, this is my first award in the blogosphere and hopefully not my last! Thank you so much to Cindy @ DiyBeautify. She and I started blogging about the same time and I love her style!  Make sure you go check her out!

Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Labor Day!

I know I did! (Even though the weather was a little crazy where I'm at.lots of rain.) I even slept in until 8a.m.! That never happens to me, I'm always up by 5 a.m...ok, ok..let me clarify I wake at 5 a.m. but refuse to get out of bed until 6 a.m.

I just wanted to share with you something that I recently discovered..I'm a little bit of a product junkie, it's a sickness I know..it's called Diamond Candles

It's the little things..Makeover Monday#3

I've slowly been making over my house, redecorating to suit my current tastes.

Seems obvious, doesn't it? After all, I'm the one who lives here.

Gone is the red dining room, the beige kitchen, the green living room and every other room a different color. Ugh! What was I thinking?

Every room is slowly coming together. One wall at a time. I had plans to completely remodel my kitchen using IKEA this summer, I had made the models, measured for cabinets, and chosen the drawer pulls.

But then life happened, I had to have surgery and paying for that (my insurance really bites) totally blew my budget.  I no longer can afford to remodel this summer, it will have to wait until I save up again. Drats!

Not one to have any kind of patience (even though I teach my Kinder/1st graders this every day) I decided for a little paint job.

My kitchen started out like this..

The Price of Indecision..

For the last two weeks a neighbor had an old 60s era record player cabinet out at the end of their drive way.  I hemmed and hawed trying to decide if I wanted to go find out about it.  You see I have an extensive record collection but no record player.  I miss listening to my old albums and would love to be able to play them again.  I also inherited a bunch of albums from my grandmother (think Elvis and Laurence Welk) that I would love to listen to.

It kind of looked like this one..
