Guest Room and Office Makeover

A few months back the ladies over at Decor Steals shared a Miss Mustard Seed pick.  It would seem that this Miss Mustard Seed (aka Marion) has the magic touch.  If you have never been over to her house tour on her blog I would highly recommend that you click on the the link above.  You won't regret it. She has the most wonderful style and her photography skills are beyond amazing.

So anyway, I order quite often from this site, as it really seems to cater to excellent prices on unique decor items. I personally can tell you that everything I have bought so far has been of excellent quality.

These are just a few of the items I have purchased.

Ok wow..I have bought a lot!  Like I said they are a great company!

A couple of months ago I ordered this "grain sack" fabric (pictured above) to finish off the bedding in my guest room. It came in a 3 yard cut and the fabric itself is heavy and thick. I wanted to recover some old bolsters that had come from a model home. They were custom sewn and very well made but the fabric was atrocious. First off, the colors were not my taste. Secondly, the room was decorated in a music note theme, again not my taste.

The top bolster is the original fabric and design. Below is the first finished product in the new fabric.

I was really happy that the new fabric was nice and thick and the old fabric would not show through. I apologize in advance for not taking pictures of the process of sewing the fabric together but next time I sew I will make sure I do. I won't bore you with a step by step in words either. (aren't I thoughtful?) It was a basic straight stitch with a draw string closure.

And here it is all complete!

I'm loving the way these turned out! And, for my first time sewing, I think I did an excellent job! Not to toot my own horn but TOOT TOOT!

Plus I ended up with enough fabric to recover the desk chair and an additional pillow!

Feeling Love Again...

First, let me say that I am not one to share my personal life normally, however, over these last four months I have had my world implode a few times over.

Makeover Monday#4 (on Tuesday)..use what you got!

As much as this might surprise some of you, I'm not made of money and I don't own a tree where it grows on (I have a black thumb..whomp whomp).

I often look around my house and reconfigure displays and trade things out to make it fresh again without spending money. Sometimes this works out other times, not so much.

Now that Fall is officially here I am excited to begin transitioning to Fall decorations!

And to quote the Pointer Sisters...." I'm so excited! I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!"

And the award goes to...The Leibster Awards and Me

Wow!!  It is a total honor to be chosen, this is my first award in the blogosphere and hopefully not my last! Thank you so much to Cindy @ DiyBeautify. She and I started blogging about the same time and I love her style!  Make sure you go check her out!

Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Labor Day!

I know I did! (Even though the weather was a little crazy where I'm at.lots of rain.) I even slept in until 8a.m.! That never happens to me, I'm always up by 5 a.m...ok, ok..let me clarify I wake at 5 a.m. but refuse to get out of bed until 6 a.m.

I just wanted to share with you something that I recently discovered..I'm a little bit of a product junkie, it's a sickness I know..it's called Diamond Candles

It's the little things..Makeover Monday#3

I've slowly been making over my house, redecorating to suit my current tastes.

Seems obvious, doesn't it? After all, I'm the one who lives here.

Gone is the red dining room, the beige kitchen, the green living room and every other room a different color. Ugh! What was I thinking?

Every room is slowly coming together. One wall at a time. I had plans to completely remodel my kitchen using IKEA this summer, I had made the models, measured for cabinets, and chosen the drawer pulls.

But then life happened, I had to have surgery and paying for that (my insurance really bites) totally blew my budget.  I no longer can afford to remodel this summer, it will have to wait until I save up again. Drats!

Not one to have any kind of patience (even though I teach my Kinder/1st graders this every day) I decided for a little paint job.

My kitchen started out like this..

The Price of Indecision..

For the last two weeks a neighbor had an old 60s era record player cabinet out at the end of their drive way.  I hemmed and hawed trying to decide if I wanted to go find out about it.  You see I have an extensive record collection but no record player.  I miss listening to my old albums and would love to be able to play them again.  I also inherited a bunch of albums from my grandmother (think Elvis and Laurence Welk) that I would love to listen to.

It kind of looked like this one..

A Mirror And A Movie...

First off, let me say I'm obsessed with finding stuff on Craigslist..

Please tell me I'm not the only one.

Please tell me that you also spend hours shuffling through millions hundreds of pictures searching for the perfect hutch/buffet/table/dresser to make over for fun to furnish your home.

Let there be light..Makeover Monday #2

Happy Monday!!

Every weekend I find myself adding things to my list of projects to complete in and around my house. I literally walk through my house and stop in each room and think, "what needs to be done in here?" It's never ending, right? Just when I cross off one item, I add three more. One of these days I'll have to document photograph my house to show all the progress I've made. I'll add that to the list..

Moving on..

Thrifty Thursday..

So today was my first trip to a Goodwill Store..

I know, I know what kind of thrifty person am I if I haven't been to Goodwill Store?!?

Before heading to Goodwill, I decided to drop by my local IKEA for a visit to my favorite kitchen. ( Does anyone else do this? Remodeling my kitchen is big on my "wants list" but I need a really affordable option and I hear great things about IKEA kitchens and followed Rhoda at Southern Hospitality and her journey remodeling her home.  She's doing a wonderful job and she has great taste! One day soon I hope to chronicle that same journey for you..)

Makeover Monday #1!!! with Rustoleum..

Good Morning and Happy Monday to you!

Over the weekend I begin updating the hardware in my house but being that I'm cheap frugal monetarily challenged resourceful I decided that I didn't want to go out and replace every doorknob in the house.

A few years ago I replaced a few knobs changing the style of the handle and never finished it got too expensive to pay 30+ dollars for every knob. I have eight interior doors in my house and I replaced half of them with new knobs.

I really wish that I kept the old stuff, just goes to show you that you show never getting rid of anything! (OK, ok I'm calling Hoarders Anonymous right now.)

This is what the doors looked liked  before.

My Very, Very First Post Ever!!

Alright this is it.  I'm all in. I am inspired to be creative. Right. Right??

Here goes nothing!

I have thought for a very long time about beginning a blog. I have read numerous blogs for a long while (my favs so far Mama Laughlin, Young House Love, Miss Mustard Seed, Southern Hospitality, Perfectly Imperfect, Decor And The Dog to name a few but there's so many more!)

I've been influenced by a number of trends and people.  But I finally decided I wanted to be on the other side..

But..

What would I blog about?

Would anyone actually follow me ?

Would anyone care what I have to say?

Then I realized what the heck, even if it's just me writing to myself as a way to chronicle this life of mine, I'm going to dive in and do it. Who knows? Let's see where it goes. Wanna come too?

That brought up even more questions..

Will I have wings?

Will I stumble and fall?

I think I'm funny, will they?

Can I write posts that appeal to an audience of more than just me?

Can I even write anything..at all???

You see where this is going. The answer to all of the above...yes (well I hope it's a yes to the last two questions, you'll let me know right? Be gentle with me).

So stay tuned and watch this journey of mine. My plan is to take you on this roller coaster ride show you what interests me. Decorating my home, cooking for my loved ones, creating how-to projects.  I fully expect that this blog will evolve over time as I find my way through and I'm hoping that you will be there along for the ride.

So welcome, I would love to get to know each of you and for each of you to get to know me.

Let's get this party started!!

Hugs and Kisses,
~Nicole

P.S. How did I do?
